Jean Humbert World Schools Cup

England Schools selected a team of six boys and six girls to contest the Cup against 25 other nations, ranging from all the leading European countries through to the People's Republic of China, Chinese Taipai, Iran, Israel, Swaziland, Nigeria, Gabon, Puerto Rico, Turkey, Algeria.
Each athlete was selected on the basis of being able to do two events but from different groupings - Eg; a run and a jump; a run and a throw; a jump and a throw.
Four of them combined to run what is called a Swedish Relay -
100m/200m/300m/400m.
Points were awarded not for positions but, as in combined events, for performance. England U18 Men won their Cup while England Under 18 Women came third behind Poland and Italy.
As well as two days of Athletics, the teams enjoyed the Opening Ceremony, a cultural/tourist fair evening, a mixed nations friendship relay around the main square of Villa Real and a sighteeing tour of the area.
