Indoor Combined Events International
Kelvin Hall, Glasgow
10th December 2005
The final event of the calendar year was the ever-popular Indoor Combined Events
International in Scotland. Travel, certainly from South East England, proved difficult as a
result of dense early morning fog and one athlete whose flight from Heathrow was cancelled
was faced, at short notice, with a journey by road along the M6 which is never to be
recommended on a Friday! Although some athletes arrived four hours later than their
scheduled time a full team managed to assemble by early evening.
The competition, as always, was both fierce and friendly as befits combined events and it was
pleasing that the individual medals were shared between the four competing countries.
English Schools' teams dominated three of the competitions but had to acknowledge the
strength and consistency of the Irish girls in the Under 16 event. English Schools' champion,
Will Lambourne, proved to be the run-away winner of the Under 18 Boys event, whilst Ashley
Bryant, only third in Southampton, performed superbly to win the Under 16 Boys event. How
pleasing it was to see nearly fifty parents and friends travelling to Glasgow to encourage the
team, meaning that, for the first time ever, we had every athlete being able to rely on the
vocal assistance of at least one family supporter in the crowd!
